Vast desert country, Mauritania offers breathtaking scenery. This country is very appreciated by tourists for its wonderful landscape and culture that are unique.
The largest Mauritanian national park, in terms of surface and landscapes, is the Banc d’Arguin National Park. It presents a highly contrasted landscape, between desert and ocean, as well as a rich natural heritage. The Banc d’Arguin is also an exceptional breeding site for European migratory birds; as such it was registered on the Ramsar list. The Banc Arguin National Park is also classified as the world heritage of UNESCO.
The country is now virtually closed to tourism.
